Mission

Mission

Hangar Bicocca is a space dedicated to contemporary art that displays new forms of artistic creation and new ways of communication with the public in a multi-disciplined setting and new ways of relating with the territory.

Hangar Bicocca is a permanent cultural reference point on an international level, committed to production and experimentation through expository activities, of research and instructive for the artists, for those in the arts and the community at large.

The fundamental goal of the Hangar Bicocca is to be a dynamic centre for the production, documentation, exhibition, promotion and dissemination of contemporary art, which is capable of creating continuous contact between Milan and the international contemporary art system, attracting innovative artists.

Furthermore, the activities are aimed at stimulating the creative energies already existing in the city that have not yet found a perfect expression, thereby becoming a point of reference, but not limited only to that, for the Milan art system.

Guidelines

The guidelines for the Hangar Bicocca activities are consistent with the centre's mission.

The heart of the activities is planning the temporary exhibitions, particularly focused on research and experimentation, in which the space itself becomes a stimulus for the artists' creations and curators: the key to success is the ability of the structure to attract and generate artistic and cultural creativity.

At the same time, the Hangar Bicocca is a place available to the public, a space open to meetings between art and its visitors: a permanent centre of activity aimed at the enjoyment and comprehension of visual culture and at the role of art in contemporary culture.

The calendar of events has been planned depending on the variety of events guaranteeing dialogue between the protagonists of contemporary culture and the different types of public. What is central is the role of the artists and international curators as well as the protagonists of different cultural spheres (music, theatre, cinema) called to give their contribution to contemporary visual culture.
